“I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”
-Psalms 121: 1&2
Hello!
I’m Isabelle Westerman, a traditional birth attendant currently based on the edge of New Hampshire’s White Mountain Range with my husband and young son. I have institutional education foundations in early childhood education, behavioral psychology, and dance. As a native of the Adirondack Park, I believe in barefoot play, nourishing foods, and serotonin-through-sunshine. My small family and I love to cook delicious things, grow herbs and veggies in our garden, restore historic charm to our 1820s house (quite a slow process!), and watch classic Western movies.
Who I am As a Birthworker
From a very early age, I have felt a call to walk alongside women in the sacred journey of pregnancy and birth. God has graciously equipped me with the means and skills to serve growing families in a way that honors their autonomy and upholds the sanctity of birth. This wisdom has been passed to me through Free Birth Society’s Matribirth Midwifery Intitute and through my own freebirth of my son.
I believe birth is an intimate and holy event—a time of consecration for the family unit. It is not a medical event, but a powerful rite of passage designed by our Creator. To preserve its sanctity, I believe that God, along with the mother and father, should remain the only authorities throughout pregnancy and birth.
This sacred authority is often compromised when we invite medical systems into our most private spaces. That is why I have intentionally chosen not to seek certification or training within the medical model of birth. My choice allows me to serve families who desire the steady presence of a birth attendant—someone who honors the family’s sovereignty and supports without imposing.
I have been trained in the art of tending the motherbaby dyad through undisturbed home birth. My role is one of quiet stewardship—offering knowledge, comfort, and grounding presence without interference—a birthkeeper.
My hope in birthwork is that mothers and fathers feel confident and comfortable to welcome their children at their own hearth.
HearthKeeper Birth Services exists to carry out the sacred work of tending women and families through the threshold of birth. Whilethe unfolding of labor is certain, the way in which a family chooses to move through it is deeply personal and sacred.
Some families desire the presence of a wise woman—one who will quietly tend the hearth, hold space, and witness the birth with reverence and steadiness. Others may feel called to birth in complete privacy, without a birth professional present, as I did with the birth of my own child.
HearthKeeper Birth Services honors both paths.
Whether you seek a grounded attendant to warm the space with prayer, touch, and trust, or you walk the freebirth path with full authority, I offer this work as a sacred companioning—never to replace your wisdom, but to support its flourishing.
